by Carol Harris, Branson area, and Mary Engler-Guccione, Joplin area

As the holidays and cold weather begin, residents of the Joplin area who are having trouble making ends meet can get help with their water bills.

The Missouri American Water Co. has a program designed to help families who are enduring economic hardship.

The Temporary Assistance Program went into effect this month.

The company is offering customers a chance to donate $1 to the program. The money collected will then be sent to an action agency that deals with families in crisis.
