A hankering for homemade pie inspired BJ and Russ Lee's new business. They opened A Piece of the Pie, a pie shop, on Dec. 31 at 2639 E. 32nd St. in Joplin.
"We both like to eat pie, and we moved to Joplin and couldn't find a place so decided to open our own," said Lee. Both previously worked in the health care field.
They sell a dozen varieties of pie, whole or by the slice. The menu also includes soups, spuds and salads.

Springfield-based Small Batch expects growth in sales as they target a national, local market.
