The Heartland Chautauqua, a re-creation of the early 1900s traveling shows that brought education and entertainment to small towns, will be held May 31-June 5 in Carthage.
An official from the Missouri Humanities Council will visit Carthage to check out proposed sites, according to Carthage Chamber of Commerce Director Heather Kelly.
Six communities in Missouri and Illinois are chosen each year as host cities. Personalities who will be portrayed this year include Sojourner Truth, Angus Augustus Burleigh, Elizabeth Van Lew, Louisa May Alcott and William Tecumseh Sherman.
