1997 was the best year ever in attendance for Silver Dollar City, according to the Branson theme park's officials.
The park had an all-time attendance record of 1.96 million guests pass through its gates in 1997. Last year's attendance record was up almost 140,000 over 1996, with an increase of 100,000 guests last summer alone.
Park officials attribute the increase to the opening last year of the park's "World's Largest Treehouse at Geyser Gulch" and the expansion of the National Children's Festival.
New at Silver Dollar City in the 1998 season will be the addition of "Splash Harbor" to its Geyser Gulch attraction.
New events for the year will include "RhythmDance," a combination of Irish dancing and American clogging, during World-Fest; "Ozark Stompin'," a combination of clogging with the sounds of rhythm, during the Great American Music Festival; and the exhibit "Earth 2U, Exploring Geography," from the Smithsonian Exhibition Traveling Services and the National Geographic Society, during the National Children's Festival.
