According to Bob Warlick, president of the Downtown Branson Betterment Association, data from the Missouri Department of Economic Development shows that among the Missouri Main Street cities, Branson's downtown ranked second in the number of new jobs created (a net of 67) and the total estimated value of reinvestment ($932,000).
The DBBA newsletter stated that Sedalia's downtown ranked first, generating 84 new jobs and $1.8 million in reinvestment during the period of July 1, 1997, to June 30, 1998.
The newsletter quoted Warlick, saying, "We are doing very well in comparison to the other 14 Main Street cities, especially when you look at the figures for Sedalia, which are five times larger (in population) than Branson, and its downtown area is at least five times larger than our downtown."
