The city of Branson reported that 1998 construction values almost doubled over those recorded in 1997. Total construction values in 1998 were $43.8 million compared to $22.8 million in 1997. Last year's values nearly reached the $44.5 million achieved in 1992, the year prior to Branson's big construction boom.

Building permits issued by the city of Branson in December 1998 included two permits for the remodeling of the Starlite Theater with an estimated value of $2 million; one permit for the remodeling of Giovanni's Restaurant with an estimated value of $900,000; and one permit for the Remington Ice Rink at an estimated value of $82,000. The Starlite Theater also filed for a landscaping permit with an estimated value of $20,000.
