Southwest CEO expresses concerns about KCI renovations

Posted online
Southwest Airlines Co. CEO Gary Kelly wants the Dallas-based low-cost carrier to be involved with the planning of changes he feels are necessary at Kansas City International Airport; he just wants those changes to cost as little as possible.

The 40-year-old airport is due for renovations and Southwest Airlines (NYSE: LUV) is currently representing all of the other airlines in the planning process, the Kansas City Business Journal reports.

Kelly, who was at the airport to commemorate the airline’s over 30 years in the Show-Me State by unveiling a new Boeing 737-700 painted with a Missouri flag and dubbed “Missouri One,” said renovations needed to be cost effective.

Southwest is the largest carrier in Kansas City International in terms of market share, according to KCBJ.
