Dallas-based Southwest Airlines (NYSE: LUV) earned $259 million in the quarter ending Sept. 30, representing a record net income in the third quarter for the airline, according to the Dallas Morning News.
Southwest’s previous record third quarter came eight years ago when it earned $210 million. The $210 million record was hit again in 2010.
The profit is miles above the $16 million Southwest earned in the same quarter last year. Last year, the company earned two cents a share on revenues of $4.31 billion during the third quarter, which compares to 37 cents per share from this year’s third quarter.
