Southwest Airlines engine explodes, killing a passenger

An engine explosion on a Southwest Airlines flight killed one passenger and injured seven others.

The midair explosion on the flight from New York to Dallas marked the first time a passenger has died in an accident on a U.S. airplane since 2009.

The two-engine plane yesterday made an emergency landing at Philadelphia International Airport.
