Southern Missouri Bank splits executive duties

Southern Missouri Bancshares Inc. has split the executive duties of its top employees.

Effective Jan. 1, Chris Owens became president of the holding company and Southern Missouri Bank of Marshfield. He assumes the role from Jerry Morgan, who will hold on to his role of CEO, according to a news release.

Owens has worked for the banking company for four as years as senior vice president of lending.

“Serving the Marshfield community will be my No. 1 priority,” Owens said in the release. “I look forward to meeting and working with everyone.”

Southern Missouri Bank started in 1997 in Marshfield and now counts 32 employees and $95 million in assets with another branch in Marshfield.

As of June 30 last year, the company held 0.8 percent of the Springfield metropolitan statistical area’s deposit market share. Southern Missouri reported $71.3 million in deposits, according to the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp.
