South-side pizza shop to close

Posted online

Jax and Gabe’s Pizzeria, a popular pizza restaurant on East Republic Road, is closing.

Owner Jason Bappe in a Facebook post this morning said the shop would shut down at the end of December.

“I’ve been wrestling with this decision since March when, as some of you know, I had a health scare with a ruptured appendix that almost took my life,” Bappe said in the post. “Those days in the ICU made me aware that life really is short and I had missed out on so many things over the years.”

Bappe said he worked 80-90 hours per week or more, over the seven-year course of the restaurant, located at 1282 E. Republic Road in Twin Oaks Marketplace.

“I’m not sure what I'll be doing next, but I am excited to start a new chapter,” he said in the post.

Named after Bappe’s grandsons, Jax and Gabe’s menu includes New York-style pies and hot dogs, pasta, cannolis and garlic knots, according to its website.

The restaurant has a 4.9 out of 5 review score on its Facebook page based on 254 people. Its Google score is 4.8 out of 5 stars from 288 reviews.

we loved eating at jax and gabe's when we had time for lunch. when we moved to nixa for a year before we retired it was just too far to go for lunch. we are sorry to learn of jason's health scare. we wish the best of luck to him and his family.
