Jax and Gabe’s Pizzeria, a popular pizza restaurant on East Republic Road, is closing.
Owner Jason Bappe in a Facebook post this morning said the shop would shut down at the end of December.
“I’ve been wrestling with this decision since March when, as some of you know, I had a health scare with a ruptured appendix that almost took my life,” Bappe said in the post. “Those days in the ICU made me aware that life really is short and I had missed out on so many things over the years.”
Bappe said he worked 80-90 hours per week or more, over the seven-year course of the restaurant, located at 1282 E. Republic Road in Twin Oaks Marketplace.
“I’m not sure what I'll be doing next, but I am excited to start a new chapter,” he said in the post.
Named after Bappe’s grandsons, Jax and Gabe’s menu includes New York-style pies and hot dogs, pasta, cannolis and garlic knots, according to its website.
The restaurant has a 4.9 out of 5 review score on its Facebook page based on 254 people. Its Google score is 4.8 out of 5 stars from 288 reviews.
