Los Cabos Mexican Grill & Cantina, which has operated in south Springfield for four years, is closing its doors.
Officials with the 4109 S. National Ave. restaurant announced the closure in a Nov. 25 Facebook post. The last day in business is scheduled Dec. 4.
"Unfortunately, due to circumstances out of our control, we will have to close our doors," the post reads.
Officials with Los Cabos could not be reached for comment by deadline.
In a Facebook comment earlier this month, a Los Cabos official said the restaurant's lease is not being renewed because a new building is coming to the South National spot.
Just to the north of the site, BiBi Investments and Development LLC last year announced plans to build a project called BiBi Office Complex at 4103 S. National Ave., according to past reporting. An official at the time said the project would sit on the north side of the Los Cabos parking lot.
A rendering shown in a listing for the BiBi Office Complex at LoopNet.com appears to show the restaurant building intact. Officials involved in the BiBi plans could not be reached for comment by deadline.
Los Cabos, an eatery from Oklahoma-based owner 6 B’s Restaurant Management Group and founder Jim Blacketer, opened in August 2018 on South National Avenue, according to past reporting. Los Cabos replaced Cantina Laredo, which shuttered its lone Springfield restaurant earlier that year.
