South Fremont license office to move

Posted online

One Springfield license office is on the move and two other southwest Missouri offices are under review by the state auditor.

Springfield’s South Fremont license office, currently at 3061 S. Fremont Ave. behind the shuttered Heritage Cafeteria, is moving down Battlefield Road. The office will reopen Feb. 18 at 319 E. Battlefield Road in the Food 4 Less shopping center, an employee at the office said.

The license office, along with fellow shopping center tenant Legacy Bagelry, is vacating the building purchased by Springfield MO LLC in October. Springfield MO LLC is connected to Chicago-based InSite Real Estate. The group has not responded to requests for comment on future plans.

On Feb. 8, Missouri Auditor Nicole Galloway started audits of the Glenstone license office, 1002 S. Glenstone Ave., and the Monett license office in Barry County, according to a news release.

The Department of Revenue is responsible for selecting agents to operate the 178 contract license offices throughout the state. These offices process transactions related to driver licenses, vehicle titles and license plates.

This is the first audit for both license offices. Audits of the Gainesville, Fayette and Ellington license offices were announced in January and are currently underway. Last year, audits of the De Soto, Grandview, Marshall, Perryville, Salem, Savannah, Twin City and Warrensburg offices were completed.
