Sony to sell cable through PlayStation

Posted online
Following in the popular footsteps of Netlix and Hulu, Sony Corp. (NYSE: SNE) plans to launch a cloud-based cable TV service in first-quarter 2015.

CNN reports the Internet cable service called Vue would be accessible through Sony PlayStation consoles and mimics the kind of TV bundle that companies such as Comcast (Nasdaq: CMCSA) and Time Warner Cable (NYSE: TWX) have traditionally sold in the United States.

Some big-name channels already have signed on, but some haven’t. Vue will carry channels such as Discovery, FX and MTV, but Sony has yet to reach a deal with Disney-owned channels, such as ESPN, or Time Warner channels, such as CNN.

A price has not yet been announced and a testing period begins this month.
