Social event covers local green-building topics

Posted online
The U.S. Green Building Council’s Missouri Heartland Chapter will hold a summer social in Springfield tonight to include the public in discussions about local environmental building.

The event will be 5:30–9 p.m. at Green Circle Shopping Center, 1110 E. Republic Road. The $3.3 million retail center opened in May and was built to be sustainable, with features including a rooftop garden, rainwater-collection system, low-flow toilets, solar technology and a pervious concrete parking lot that allows water drainage.

Food and drinks catered by Green Circle tenant San Francisco Oven will be offered until 7 p.m., as well as vendor booths, door prizes and facility tours, followed by an introduction from Green Circle developer Matt O’Reilly.

Master of ceremonies Greene County Presiding Commissioner David Coonrod and guest speaker Springfield City Councilman Dan Chiles will discuss the city’s new green building policy, which requires that any new building built by the city must be certified at the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Silver level for new construction. Afterward, Coonrod and Chiles will conduct a question-and-answer session.[[In-content Ad]]
