Area golfers will tee up May 13 for the second annual Steve Snyder Foundation Golf Tournament at Deer Lake Golf Course, according to foundation Vice President Cindy Reed. The event, which raises funds for a scholarship in Snyder's name, is a two-person scramble with a shotgun start time of 7:30 a.m.|ret||ret||tab|

Snyder, formerly news director at KOLR-10, died May 9, 1998, in a car accident. The scholarship that bears his name provides $5,000 $1,250 per semester for four semesters to a student who is pursuing a course of study in broadcast journalism, said Deborah Snyder, president of the foundation.|ret||ret||tab|

Students living in KOLR's southwest Missouri viewing area are eligible, and the scholarship award is based on need.|ret||ret||tab|

Last year's inaugural tournament, at Rivercut, had 116 participants and raised $6,000 for the foundation. Not bad, Reed said, considering she, Snyder and the foundation committee put the first tournament together in 3 1/2 months with no prior experience. Snyder added that she expects higher participation this year.|ret||ret||tab|

Snyder said a golf tournament was chosen because of the sport's popularity here. |ret||ret||tab|

"This is definitely a golfing community," she said. |ret||ret||tab|

The tournament is also geared for a broad base of participation in terms of sponsorships, Snyder said. Sponsorships range from $50 for name recognition on the tournament golf shirts to hole-in-one sponsorships at $500, $600, $750 and $1,000. |ret||ret||tab|

Prizes will be awarded to three places in three flights. Door prizes will be given, as well as hole-in-one awards ranging from $5,000 on Hole No. 3 to $40,000 on Hole No. 17. Snyder said everyone who participates receives a golf shirt and goody bag.|ret||ret||tab|

The cost is $75 per person and $150 per team including golf cart and lunch. Mulligans are available for $10. The deadline to sponsor or participate in the tournament is May 5. For more information, call Snyder at 859-5709.|ret||ret||tab|
