Dozens of fitness centers compete for a piece of the Springfield area pie, and this week's list ranking the largest 15 centers takes a look at how the market shakes out.

The list is ranked by number of 2008 active members.

Ozarks Regional YMCA is No. 1, with 25,000 2008 active members. Based at 417 S. Jefferson Ave., the local YMCA has 584 employees. Monthly fees range from $15 to $64.

In second is Ozark Fitness Center, with 11,000 active members.

The complete list includes 15 centers and their contact information, number of members, employee counts, membership types, special discounts, contract details, hours of business, monthly and initial fees, special programs and equipment, years established locally and names of owners and managers.
