Smart teddy bears involved in contentious data breach

CloudPets, a line of stuffed animals that can receive and send voice messages from children and parents, have been involved in a breach affecting more than 800,000 user accounts, according to IDG News Service.

Security researcher Troy Hunt, who tracks data breaches, posted about the incident on Monday. He claims hackers accessed a CloudPets database containing email addresses and hashed passwords. They even sought to ransom the information in January, Hunt says.

The company behind the products, Spiral Toys, denies a hack occurred.
