Smart Chicken donating to Ozarks Food Harvest

Posted online
Waverly, Neb.-based Smart Chicken has agreed to donate 9,400 pounds of poultry to Ozarks Food Harvest.

The company donates 1 pound of poultry for every 10 pounds of product purchased during the year at local grocery stores, including Price Cutter, Harter House and Town & Country. OFH will distribute the donation to food pantries in the region for families to use during the holidays and after New Year's Eve, according to a news release.

"Protein-rich food items are at the top of our holiday wish list, so this gift comes at an ideal time for us," OFH Development Director Denise Gibson said in the release. "We are thankful for Smart Chicken's continued support of hunger relief here in the Ozarks."

Part of Smart Chicken's 11th annual Feed the Hungry campaign, the donation is on the higher end of the scale. The company's donations usually range between 7,000 and 9,000 pounds, OFH said. Last year, the company donated 9,000 pounds of poultry to OFH.

A morning news conference is slated Dec. 16 at OFH's headquarters, 2810 N. Cedarbrooke Ave., to present the donation.[[In-content Ad]]
