Small business hiring stands at nearly eight-year high

The National Federation of Independent Business is reporting that small businesses in the United States added an average of 0.24 workers per company in December, according to Reuters.
 
This increase is the largest since February 2006, and is seen as an indication of a strengthening job market and overall economy, the report states. Payroll processor ADP said 238,000 jobs were added in December, the most in 13 months.
 
The report also states about 10 percent of businesses laid off 1.8 workers on average. On Friday, the government’s employment report for December is expected to show a small decrease in hiring.
