Small-business deadline for county CARES funds hits tomorrow

Posted online

Local small businesses have until tomorrow to apply for Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act grant funding through Greene County.

The Greene County Commission earlier this month extended the deadline for small businesses to apply for $6.5 million allocated out of $34.4 million total it received. County officials said in a Sept. 10 news release the deadline was extended to "help maximize the amount of small businesses assisted."

The commission on Sept. 24 issued its latest round of CARES Act grants, with more than $260,000 earmarked for small businesses, according to a separate news release. At $35,000 for personal protective equipment, The Vision Clinic was the top recipient of the latest funding round in the small-business category.

With the latest round, the commission still has more than $5 million allocated for small businesses, according to past reporting.

The Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce yesterday issued a reminder to members about the approaching deadline. The chamber has set up a document of frequently asked questions and additional resources on its website.
