Small-business confidence dips

Small-business confidence unexpectedly declined in August, according to a report from the National Federation of Independent Business.

The NFIB's small-business optimism index dropped to 94.4 last month from July's 94.6, the best level of the year.

The 730 respondents indicated lower expectations that the economy would improve. They also said they have no immediate plans to increase employment.
