The Springfield Family YMCA's sixth annual Y Not Run 8K race is slated for an 8 a.m. start Sept. 30 at the Ward Branch YMCA downtown. Proceeds from the race will benefit the Springfield Family Y's scholarship fund, which assists nearly 3,200 individuals each year in YMCA programs, services and membership opportunities, according to a release from the YMCA.
Nearly $333,000 is needed to provide this support on a yearly basis.
There are eight age divisions for the race, from age 14 to age 70-plus. The entry fee is $12 in advance; $15 the day of the race. Registration forms are available at both YMCA locations and at The Athlete's Foot.The day begins with registration, 7-7:45 a.m.. The race begins at the Ward Y and follows a course ending in Jubliee Park, two blocks north of the Y. An awards ceremony will take place at 9 a.m. in the park.
