Show up at the Musgrave Unit of the Boys and Girls Club of Springfield at 720. S. Park on Feb. 24 and follow your nose to the fun. Fourteen creative cooks ages 9-13 will be preparing their own special recipes in the AWGSpringfield/Pillsbury Kids' Bake-Off Contest. The local winner will earn an expense-paid trip for four to the national Bake-Off at Sea World Orlando in Florida. The grand prize at the national competition will be $25,000, plus another $25,000 for the winner's favorite charity. First prize is $10,000 cash and another $10,000 for charity; second prize is $5,000 with a matching sum for charity. Cooking for the local contest will be in mini-kitchens with ranges provided by co-sponsor General Electric Appliances. Recipes will be judged on taste, appearance, creativity and preparation, according to a news release from the club. Pillsbury, owned by GE, has sponsored the national Bake-Off contest for adults for more than 50 years.
