Evangel University's Wellness Center will sponsor the Great Jeans Giveaway to help women learn to accept their bodies as they are, according to Chris Arnzen, director of the university's counseling center. Women's jeans will be collected March 12-16. Collection boxes will be available in the Wellness Center and in each residence hall. Once collected, the jeans will be donated to Harmony's Closet, a clothing bank for the Family Violence Center. The jeans donated should be those that reflect a woman's "ideal" body, not her real one. The purpose of the collection is to spotlight the struggle "many women (have) with our culture's standard of the beauty ideal,"Arznen said. "A woman (holds) onto a pair of jeans that she uses as a standard for her ideal. We want each woman to challenge the thin body ideal' by giving up an ill-fitting pair of jeans and embracing the reality of her body."
