The distinction, given by HealthGrades, puts Skaggs among the nation’s top 5 percent of hospitals for excellence based on mortality and complication rates. Skaggs is one of 266 of the country’s 4,971 nonfederal hospitals to receive the award.
According to the HealthGrades report, patients admitted to hospitals that received the excellence award are 28 percent less likely to die and 5 percent less likely to suffer a major complication.
Skaggs received the award because of its excellence in treatment of heart failure, hip fracture repair, stroke, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, cholecystectomy, respiratory failure and gastrointestinal care.
The hospital is a 177-bed facility with 24 satellite medical clinics in Taney and Stone counties.
