Six states without a billionaire

Posted online
Having completed its new listing of the richest people in every state, Forbes identified six states that are home to “mere centimillionaires”.

Some don’t fall too short of the billion-dollar mark. Alabama coal mining mogul Garry Drummond has an estimated $980 million, while Gary Tharaldson of North Dakota has hotels, real estate and ethanol worth $930 million.

Robert Gore and Elizabeth Snyder, siblings who each own a $675 million stake in manufacturer W.L. Gore & Associates, are tied as the richest citizens in their state of Delaware. New Mexico’s Mack Chase is next at $650 million spread amongst oil, ranches and charter jets. Former billionaire and Vermont philanthropist John Abele ranked at $603 million.

The poorest man on the Forbes list is Alaskan Robert Gilliam, owner of McKinley Capital Management, with $320 million. Washington’s Bill Gates topped the list at $78.8 billion.
