Six KC, St. Louis-area firms make top 50 engineering list

Six Kansas City and St. Louis-area engineering firms made the top 50 in Engineering News-Records’ recent list of the top 500 design companies in the country based on revenue.

The four highest-ranking firms between the two cities all operate headquarters in the Kansas City area: Black & Veatch, No. 16; Burns & McDonnell, 18; HTNB Cos., 21; abd Terracon Consultants Inc., 35. HOK of St. Louis landed at No. 36, while Aegion Corp. of Chesterfield was ranked No. 47.

Of the companies named, Black & Veatch and Burns & McDonnell were the only billion-dollar players with $1.3 billion and $1.04 billion in 2013 revenue, respectively.
