Herschend Family Entertainment Corp. this weekend opened the $8 million Fireman’s Landing expansion at Silver Dollar City.

Part of its spring promotion, the March 14-15 opening marked the public debut for the project that replaces the nearly 15-year-old water-themed Geyser Gulch at the Branson Park.

SDC spokeswoman Martha Hoy Bohner said the park drew in 12,500 visitors on Saturday and 16,000 on Sunday.

The firefighter-themed addition on nearly 2 acres adds six rides, including FireFall, an attraction that drops riders from eight stories high. The addition also includes four interactive play zones, themed to salute community volunteer firefighters and their training activities.

Fireman’s Landing opens two years after SDC launched Outlaw Run, a $10.5 million wooden roller coaster known for its loops.

Starting in June, the HFE-acquired exhibition basketball team Harlem Globetrotters will play at SDC, according to Springfield Business Journal archives.[[In-content Ad]]
