Shriners convention in 2020 to bring 20K visitors to KC

Shriners International announced yesterday it has chosen Kansas City to host its 2020 national convention, which is expected to bring 20,000 visitors to the city’s downtown area July 5-9, 2020.

The convention – the city’s largest so far in 2020, according to the Kansas City Business Journal – is expected to generate 11,000 room nights and bring nearly $18 million into the area’s economy.

The last time the Shriners held their national convention in Kansas City was in 1976. Representatives of the group acknowledged plans for the new Hyatt convention hotel helped secure the event.
