Despite previously announced plans to close the clinic, the Shealy Institute may continue indefinitely.
Dr. Neil Nathan and Dr. Rick Jones, both physicians at the clinic, are leaving to open their own practices at the end of 1998, Nathan said. He said that Dr. Norman Shealy had previously announced that he was closing the clinic, but at this time, was planning to continue it.
Nathan said he was leaving after more than three years at the clinic to establish his own practice because the time is right for him. He will continue the focus on pain management and combining conventional medicine with alternative treatment. The Shealy Institute has maintained a focus on holistic medicine during its tenure in Springfield, Nathan said.
Shealy had no comment to make at this time.
The Shealy Institute operates at 1328 E. Evergreen in Springfield. It was established in 1982 and was affiliated with St. John's, but later became independent.
