Former professional basketball player Shaquille O'Neal is joining the board of embattled pizza chain Papa John's.
"The addition of Shaquille on the board, I think is really going to highlight what we need to do from a marketing standpoint to get those sales moving," CEO Steve Ritchie said.
Eight months ago, founder John Schnatter's likeness was stripped from marketing materials. He stepped down after using a racial slur in a conference call, and previously blamed the NFL's leadership for poor sales at his company. Papa John's previously was the marketed official pizza chain of the NFL.
