Serena Williams plans retirement from tennis

Tennis star Serena Williams announced plans to retire from the game.

"I’m evolving away from tennis, toward other things that are important to me," she said in a Vogue article, pointing to her family and venture capital firm.

Williams, a 23-time Grand Slam champion, plans to retire from tennis after playing in the U.S. Open, which begins later this month. She won her first U.S. Open in 1999.
