The senators hosted a Water Quality Summit Aug. 19 where they met with representatives from the Environmental Resources Coalition, which manages the Water Quality Improvement Project that began a year ago.
Bond and Talent so far have secured $4 million for the project in the last two years. The senators pledge to send another $6 million the project’s way in the next three years.
The project is a collaborative partnership that works with local organizations and schools to identify the region’s major water quality problems. Funds will be used to monitor waterways and develop protection and cleaning methods.
Also present at the summit were members of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Elk River Watershed Improvement Association, James River Partnership, Shoal Creek Watershed Improvement Group, Table Rock Lake Water Quality Inc., Upper White River Basin Foundation and the Watershed Committee of the Ozarks.
