The bill allows small airports that recently became small hub primary airports – such as Springfield-Branson’s airport – to remain eligible for funds from the Federal Aviation Administration.
The airport has received about $7 million in federal funds for its $146 million midfield terminal project, set for completion in 2009. Future funding is in jeopardy unless the House approves the provision.
If passed, the provision would allow the airport to receive FAA funds for three fiscal years after the start of construction. The Secretary of Transportation will determine additional funding on a case-by-case basis.
The provision is tied to the 2006 Transportation-Treasury-Housing and Urban Development spending bill.
