Senate panel advances emergency border funding

The Senate Appropriations Committee approved a bipartisan $4.6 billion emergency border funding bill.

The approval sets up a Senate vote next week, and the House may also consider it.

The funding would be used to address the situation at the southern border, where more than 100,000 illegal immigrants have been apprehended during the past several months. This fiscal year, 675,000 people have been caught.
