Senate approves Trump impeachment trial plan

The Senate voted Wednesday along party lines to approve the impeachment trial rules.

The vote rejected Democratic efforts to obtain evidence and ensure witnesses are heard for President Donald Trump's trial.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s rules allow for 48 hours of opening arguments over six days, as well as the House’s record of the investigation to be admitted as evidence.

The House of Representatives last month impeached Trump on charges of abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. Trump is accused of pressuring Ukraine to investigate former Democratic Vice President Joe Biden, who is running for president this year.
