Sen. McCaskill picks up $2.7M condo in Washington

Posted online
Sen. Claire McCaskill, D-Mo., and her husband, Joseph Shepard, bought a $2.7 million condo last month in downtown Washington, D.C. The property, which was picked up Feb. 2, appears to be the most expensive unit to sell so far in the mixed-use development named CityCenterDC, where rents have ranged from just above $400,000 to $1.7 million.

In 2007, McCaskill and Shepard bought a $700,000 condo near the Government Accountability Office’s headquarters. Shepard, an affordable housing developer in St. Louis, has been criticized for receiving federal subsidies during his wife’s tenure, according to the Washington Business Journal.

In January, Politico reported McCaskill was the richest Missouri lawmaker in Congress, with a net worth of $21 million last year.
