In what’s being considered a gain in momentum for a four-day workweek, Congress is reviewing legislation to cut the standard workweek to 32 hours without a pay cut.
In the proposal filed by Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., those who work over 32 hours in a week would receive overtime pay, which also would be awarded over eight hours in one day. The move would be phased in over four years.
America’s 40-hour workweek has been federal law since 1940 following passage of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
