Sellars will join a Council of Europe forum, “Higher Education and Democratic Culture: Citizenship, Human Rights and Civic Responsibility,” June 22–23 at the council’s headquarters in Strasbourg, France.
The group of presidents will tackle three core issues: fostering democratic culture through inclusion and dialogue, promoting human rights through teaching and action, and building sustainable communities through knowledge and civic responsibility, Sellars said in a news release.
“The democratic principles of inclusion and meaningful respect for all people are deeply important values, both to me personally and in the work all of us are engaged in at Drury,” Sellars said in the release. “I am honored that Drury’s leadership in these issues on a national and a global level is being recognized through this invitation.”
Drury’s connection to international democracy and higher education comes partly from its participation in “Shared Futures: General Education for Global Learning,” a national project that explores ways to link liberal arts with global issues.
Invitations to the forum were given to leaders who were selected based on recommendations from the American Council on Education, Campus Compact, and Association of American Colleges & Universities.[[In-content Ad]]
