Thumbing through a national industrial development trade publication recently, I noticed that Springfield is considered a second-tier market. That's defined as a Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) of 250,000 to 1 million people. Certainly, we're at the lower end of that range, with 305,000 people living in our three-county MSA, but we're now being classified with cities such as Boulder, Colo.
