Freddy’s Frozen Custard franchisee Jamie Rheem is working to open a second Queen City restaurant for the chain by this summer.

Rheem of 3 Pointe Restaurant Group LLC said the company bought a roughly 3,600-square-foot building at 3757 S. Glenstone Ave. late last year for an undisclosed price. Purchased from Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones’ Blue Star development company, the property most recently housed Billy Sims BBQ and also had previously been home to Boston Market. The property’s 2014 taxable appraised value is $732,300, according to the Greene County assessor’s website.

“We’re growing fast and we’ve really been well received in Springfield,” Rheem said of opening the new store after its first location in south Springfield at 615 W. El Camino Alto Drive got its start in November 2012.

Rheem, whose company also operates a Branson Freddy’s franchise, said renovation on the Glenstone building likely would begin within 60 days in an effort to open by early summer. The restaurant would employ around 90 when it opens, he said.

Rheem said his company also is pursuing a third location on the north side, noting a contractual agreement is in the works and could become official in the next couple of months.

3 Pointe also is starting construction on a Freddy’s franchise store in Fayetteville, Ark., in the next couple weeks, and is in talks to open other Arkansas franchise stores in Bentonville and Springdale. Rheem said the company also is the negotiation process to open two stores in San Diego County, Calif.

According to FreddysUSA.com, the initial franchise fee for a single store is $25,000 with ongoing royalties of 4.5 percent of gross sales and up 0.5 percent in marketing. Franchisees are expected to spend between $522,250 and $1.02 million per location.
