SEC targets fake stock news on financial websites

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission yesterday announced it intends to crack down on alleged stock promotion schemes on financial websites.

Writers are accused of being paid to post hundreds of bullish articles about public companies.

Twenty-seven individuals and entities are being charged with misleading investors on such websites as Seeking Alpha, Benzinga and Wall Street Cheat Sheet.
