SEC probes solar companies

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission is investigating San Francisco-based Sunrun Inc. and Elon Musk's San Mateo, California-based SolarCity Corp.

According to a person familiar with the matter, the probe is investigating whether solar-energy companies are masking how many customers they're losing.

The SEC and the two solar companies declined to comment on whether the investigation is underway.
