SEC probes HSBC hiring in Asia

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission is investigating London-based HSBC over its hiring practices in Asia.

According to the company, the investigation involves recruitment of "candidates referred by or related to government officials or employees of state-owned enterprises."

According to CNNMoney, the SEC in 2013 began investigating banks for violations of the U.S. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, which makes it illegal for companies to give officials anything of value in exchange for business deals.
