Seattle becomes first US city to let Uber drivers unionize

Seattle's governing body yesterday voted to allow drivers of ride-hailing companies such as Uber and Lyft to unionize over pay and working conditions.

It becomes the first U.S. city to do so.

According to USA Today, the decision is likely to be challenged. While city council voted 8-0 in favor of the rule change, Seattle Mayor Ed Murray yesterday said he does not plan to sign it. The bill still can become law even without his signature.
