Scott Walker ends 2016 presidential run

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker announced yesterday he is quitting the race for the GOP nomination for president.

He urged some of his 15 rivals to do the same to unite against leading candidate Donald Trump.

Walker's rebuke of Trump gives a voice to Republican fears that the party may risk alienating large parts of the electorate - Hispanics, women, immigrants, veterans, and most recently, Muslims, according to the New York Times.

But his exit was not selfless. Walker was running low on campaign cash, sliding in opinion polls, losing donors to rivals and unnerving supporters with a stream of gaffes, like saying he would consider building a wall along the Canadian border, according to the Times.
