Scott Consulting Engineers provided site civil engineering, storm-water management, utility coordination, street improvements and transitway and landscape irrigation design for Southwest Missouri State University’s new Intermodal Transfer Facility. Neil D. Fossnight, PE, of Scott Consulting Engineers, was the project engineer. DeWitt & Associates Inc. is the general contractor for the project, which has an estimated cost of $13 million. SCE is working with Lenexa, Kan.-based George Butler & Associates, which is providing architectural, structural and landscape design. The four-level parking facility will hold 1,250 vehicles, and it will have connecting transitways and walkways. There will be a covered waiting area for shuttle riders, glass-backed elevators, glass-enclosed stairs, interior lighting and security cameras. Included in the project is the creation of a new multiuse transitway from John Q. Hammons Parkway from Plaster Stadium to the east side of the parking structure, and the future closure of John Q. Hammons Parkway from Monroe to Grand. That stretch will be converted to a dedicated transitway that will enhance safety and separate shuttle vehicles, bicyclists and pedestrians. The structure is slated for completion in spring 2006.
