Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt filed suit against the Rockwood School District near St. Louis.
The suit alleges the district violated the Sunshine Law in connection with a records request Schmitt's office filed last year.
Schmitt’s team in November asked for electronic records related to the district's decision to publish the number for an FBI tip line on its website. The FBI has moved to probe threats to school board members.
The lawsuit alleges up-front fee payments and a deposit to "prepare copies" of the records were requested despite them being electronic.
