Scarlett Johansson sues Disney

Scarlett Johansson filed suit against Walt Disney Co. for its decision to stream “Black Widow" at the same time as its debut in theaters.

Johansson, the star of the film, alleges her contract was breached. The lawsuit alleges her agreement with Disney guaranteed an exclusive theatrical release. Her salary reportedly is based largely on the box-office performance of the film.

A Disney spokesperson said the lawsuit does not have merit and is “especially sad and distressing in its callous disregard for the horrific and prolonged global effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.”
